About Foundation
Angkorwat stands as one of the world’s most remarkable expressions of the historic civilizational connection between India and Cambodia. Its magnificent temples, sacred architecture, inscriptions, sculptures and living traditions preserve the memory of centuries of cultural exchange between the two civilizations.
Around four million tourists from across the world visit Cambodia each year, drawn by the extraordinary heritage of Angkorwat and its surrounding temple complexes. Yet, despite India’s profound historical and cultural connection with this heritage, fewer than 5,000 Indians make this journey annually.
This striking contrast raises an important question: How can a heritage so deeply connected with Indian civilization remain so little known and experienced by Indians themselves?
For many Indians, the remarkable story of ancient Kambuja—its connections with Indian philosophy, spirituality, Sanskrit, art, architecture, literature and traditions—is still waiting to be rediscovered.
The India Cambodia Angkor Foundation was conceived to bridge this distance—not merely a geographical distance, but a cultural and generational one.
Through heritage journeys, research, education, publications, cultural programmes and meaningful people-to-people engagement, the Foundation seeks to reconnect Indians with this shared civilizational inheritance while strengthening contemporary bonds between the people of India and Cambodia.
Our endeavour is not simply to look back at history. It is to rediscover a living civilizational relationship, preserve it for future generations, and allow this ancient bond to inspire new connections between India and Cambodia.
The Dream of One Crore Angkorwat
Vishnudham Visitors
(A vision to inspire one crore Indians to experience Angkorwat and rediscover a shared civilizational heritage.)
The India Cambodia Angkor Foundation carries an ambitious yet deeply meaningful vision: to inspire one crore Indians to visit Angkorwat and experience the extraordinary civilizational heritage of ancient Kambuja firsthand.
This is not merely a tourism goal. Every journey to Angkorwat is an opportunity to rediscover a remarkable chapter of our shared history—to encounter magnificent temples, sacred traditions, Sanskrit inscriptions, timeless sculptures, architectural knowledge and the enduring cultural connections between India and Cambodia.
Through heritage yatras, educational initiatives, research, publications, cultural programmes and greater public awareness, the Foundation seeks to transform this dream into a sustained civilizational movement—one that reconnects people with their heritage while building stronger bonds between India and Cambodia for generations to come.
One Crore Visitors. One Shared Heritage. One Enduring Bond.
